There are plenty of popular cafes and coffee shops in Los Angeles (no surprise), but these ten are the most frequented by locals. Locals including myself and several of my good friends who have grown up, lived and worked in LA.

Whether you are visiting for the weekend or just moved into the city, theses 11 cafes and coffee shops in Los Angeles are the perfect hang out spots if you want to experience the local lifestyle.
First on the list…
1. Kindness & Mischief Coffee
Located in the hipster side of LA, an up and coming area called Highland Park, Kindness & Mischief Coffee serves a killer cup of coffee, hot or iced, but they also have the best granola bowl in town. Pair your coffee with one of their famous vegan donuts while you’re at it and take a walk on the hipster side of life.
Kindness & Mischief Coffee attracts digital nomads from all over the city probably because of it’s vegan options and friendly staff. Expect to eat a delicious breakfast (their baked goods are insanely good), enjoy free wifi and make some friends with funny socks, included.

If there is a line worth waiting in, it is standing in line at Urth Cafe, because although it is a chain restaurant and has several locations, one of the best is in West Hollywood (locals!). This is a major local’s spot in West Hollywood. If you live near the Sunset Strip, you probably already know about this place but if you’re visiting, this is one of the cafés you will not spot tourists at. (At least I haven’t.) It’s West Hollywood’s best kept secret.
Located near Sunset Blvd on the corner of Holloway, this cafe is in a perfect walkable location if you’re looking to explore the nicest parts of West Hollywood. This spot is adorable and completely inviting because it is owned by this sweetest older couple who will treat you like family. Stop by any day for fresh squeezed juice, delicious coffee, an incredible vibe and delicious food.
If you’re feeling hungry, they have a full breakfast menu with muffins, paninis and my all time favorite: the lox bagel, because who doesn’t love lox bagels?

4. Le Pain Quoten
This cafe is the perfect spot to grab a bite of something sweet and hang with friends, because the food is bomb). I recommend trying their famous Dragon Bowls: an incredible acai bowl that will blow your mind and keep you coming back for more. Second only to Green Table Cafe’s acai bowls because you’ll see what I mean when you get to number six on this list.

Alfred Coffee is the it coffee shop in Los Angeles. Locals might tell you it’s overrated, but you’ll notice they go anyway. Interesting. This place has the best breakfast in the city because if you’re in the mood for a killer classic french toast or just a coffee, you can enjoy your meal on the outdoor patio. Kings Road Cafe can get really crowded so expect a small wait time. This is the epitome of the boogie West Hollywood crowd and a fabulous spot for people watching. The woman in the picture below is my friend Amanda and because the table next to us happened to be the owners of an eyewear line, they offered their sunglasses for us to use for our photo session. You never know who you will meet here 🙂

It’s in the perfect location to walk around the city after you enjoy your morning breakfast because Santa Monica Blvd is lined with charming shops. Also, the crowd at Mo Cafe is full of West Hollywood locals that are friendly and frequent Mo Cafe goers.
Mo Cafe has a big menu, but if you’re not sure what to order, you can’t go wrong with one of their famous stuffed crepes- banana, strawberry, chocolate, the works.

Civil Coffee is a highland park gem with hipster crowds. I added it to the list because they have the best damn avocado toast you’ll ever have. Don’t worry it’s also one of the best coffee shops in Los Angeles, but on top of the good food, the ambiance is charming. The cute outdoor seating in the back has cozy string lights and wooden benches to sip on your much needed cappuccino.
